To explore Morocco is to enter a world full of colors, aromas and landscapes that seem like something out of a dream. The 3-day tour from Errachidia to the Merzouga Desert and on to the historic city of Fez is an ideal route for travelers looking for an authentic and transformative experience. Join us on this fascinating journey through palm groves, golden dunes and ancient mountains.
Your adventure begins in Errachidia, the gateway to the majestic Moroccan Sahara. Our team welcomes travelers at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport or their accommodation with a warm greeting and traditional mint tea.
From there, we begin a scenic drive through the Ziz Valley, a stunning oasis that stretches for miles, lined with thousands of palm trees and fortified villages (ksars). This region is well-known for its agriculture, especially its high-quality dates. Along the way, we make panoramic stops to take in and photograph the lush green valley contrasting with rocky desert landscapes.
After enjoying a traditional lunch in Aoufous or Erfoud, we arrive at Merzouga, a small Berber village at the edge of the desert. Here, the highlight begins: a camel ride through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset, painting the horizon in shades of orange and pink.
The camel trek takes us to a luxury nomadic camp nestled in the heart of the desert. You’ll be welcomed with Berber hospitality, traditional music, dinner under the stars, and accommodation in beautifully equipped tents designed for comfort.
We rise early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, a silent and soul-stirring spectacle. After breakfast at the camp, we return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 vehicle to resume our journey north.
Our first stop is Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty and a former caravan trading hub. We explore the lively traditional souk, where locals trade spices, fabrics, ceramics, and Berber jewelry. Don’t miss the chance to taste Berber pizza (medfouna), a local delicacy.
We continue toward Errachidia, passing by Hassan Addakhil Dam, a beautiful man-made lake that supplies water to the region. From there, we head into the Middle Atlas Mountains, bound for Midelt, a town nestled between two mountain ranges.
As the landscapes shift from stony deserts to fertile valleys and rugged gorges, the diversity of Morocco’s terrain becomes strikingly clear.
In Midelt, we spend the night in a cozy riad or traditional hotel, where a dinner made from fresh, local ingredients is served. This peaceful evening offers a well-deserved rest before our journey to one of North Africa’s most captivating cities.
After breakfast, we depart Midelt and travel toward Fez, passing through the heart of the Middle Atlas. This route features scenic mountains, dense forests, and traditional Berber villages that preserve their ancestral customs.
We stop at the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to the endangered Barbary macaques, which you can observe in their natural habitat. This forest is also a refreshing spot to take a walk and breathe in the crisp mountain air.
Our journey continues through Ifrane, known as the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine-style architecture and pristine streets. A popular winter retreat, Ifrane is an ideal place for a coffee break before reaching our final destination.
Finally, we arrive in Fez, the oldest imperial city in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site. While this marks the end of our desert journey, it also begins a new chapter of discovery in a city filled with ancient medinas, vibrant culture, and rich history.
