To experience the magic of the Sahara Desert does not require weeks of travel. With just 2 days from Errachidia to the Merzouga Desert, it is possible to immerse yourself in a world of golden dunes, Berber culture and starry nights. This short getaway is perfect for those who want to experience the essentials of the desert without sacrificing comfort and authenticity.
The adventure begins with a pick-up in Errachidia, a city strategically located near the desert. Whether arriving at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport or from local accommodation, our expert guides warmly welcome travelers with a glass of traditional mint tea 🍵, a symbol of Moroccan hospitality.
We head south along the road that winds through the Ziz Valley, one of Morocco’s most spectacular oases. This lush valley is filled with palm groves and traditional adobe villages, set in striking contrast against the surrounding arid landscapes. Along the way, we’ll make scenic stops for photos and to learn more about the ancient oasis farming system.
After passing through Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and date production, we finally reach Merzouga, the gateway to the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes—a sea of golden sand where dunes can reach up to 150 meters high 🌅.
In Merzouga, camels await to take you on an unforgettable ride through the dunes just in time for sunset. As the sun dips below the horizon, it bathes the sands in warm shades of orange and pink, creating a truly magical atmosphere.
After about an hour of trekking, we arrive at a traditional desert camp nestled deep in the dunes. Guests are welcomed with live Berber music, a delicious Moroccan dinner under the stars ✨, and a night in luxurious tents (haimas) equipped with comfortable beds, private bathrooms, and all the modern amenities needed to enjoy the desert without sacrificing comfort.
We wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, a breathtaking and peaceful moment that captures the spirit of the Sahara. Then, after a hearty breakfast at camp, we return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4 vehicle, depending on your preference.
